SILCA Super Secret Chain lube started out as a project to develop the fastest Hot-Melt wax lubricant available more than two years ago.
SILCA has been recommending Hot Melt Wax and helping Pro cyclists and triathletes wax chains for years and wanted to bring his lubricant formula to our customers, the challenge was how to consistently melt, dip and agitate the chain across different crockpot designs and temperatures.
The project took a fascinating turn from the world of IndyCar when we were introduced to a group that had developed a technology to put micro-scale wax powders into a solution that was quick drying and forms a coating that is indiscernible from hot melt dipping. The combination of air-drying liquid wax and Tungsten Disulfide would quickly prove to beat all currently available hot melt waxes in friction testing while being much faster and easier to apply.
Proper Chain cleaning and Drying
Follow SILCA instructions on properly cleaning the chain followed by at least 12 but optimally 24 hours of rest for the wax to fully dry and cure to the chain.

The test is designed to replicate real world situations to help you choose the best chain lube for your bicycle. Up until 2020 only 1 lubricant had made it through all 6 test blocks below 100% wear, and 95% of lubricants tested fail the test before reaching block 6.
SILCA WS2 technology has produced lubricants in all 3 lubricant type categories which make it to block 6 including the current all-time test winner, SILCA Secret Blend hot wax which has beaten the previous record holder by nearly 4x!
(Please note, there is no 'Dry Lube' category. Dry lubricants test poorly in efficiency and often will not survive to Block 2 of testing. These lubes tend to be mostly solvent mixed with dry lubricant powder and are both environmentally harmful as well as fast wearing and inefficient.)
What are PFAS?
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of man-made chemicals that include perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. Concentrations of many VOCs are consistently higher indoors (up to ten times higher) than outdoors. VOCs are emitted by a wide array of products numbering in the thousands.

Protecting our waterways, even with the smallest marginal gain can have a huge impact for the future of our planet. When most riders hear about a “green” lubricant, it’s implied that the effectiveness of the lubricant does not meet performance standards or falls short of that mark.
